ISOBIO

Description

ISOBIO was a 4-year European research project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement N° 636835.

Through ISOBIO, high-performance bio-based insulation, plaster and renders were developed, that simultaneously minimise operational energy use, while reducing embodied energy and CO2 emissions, with the objective of reducing the environmental impact of the built environment.

Aggregates of biological origin such as straw, clay and agricultural residues, were combined with innovative binders, to create new bio-based materials that were combined in composite pre-fabricated construction systems for both new build and retrofitting of existing buildings.

Progetic was responsible for dynamic hygrothermal simulation of the construction systems with WUFI, analysis of monitoring data, and model validation of the prototypes installed in Seville (Spain) and Wroughton (UK) test sites. ISOBIO was coordinated by TWI Ltd, with partners: University of Bath, University of Rennes 1, CAVAC Biomateriaux, CLAYTEC, Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research, Acciona Infraestructuras, Coobio, BCB SAS, Greenovate! Europe and Progetic.
